At some point or another, even if you swear you have no artistic bone in your body, you have doodled. This form of drawing is almost a rite of passage. You’ve squiggled shapes, patterns, and textures in school. You’ve scribbled famous characters, letterings, and caricatures at work. Sometimes, it’s just a natural occurrence when you have a pen and paper. Heck, even Google doodles.
But if you think doodles are just for people who are incredibly bored or daydreaming, then you haven’t heard about Kerby Rosanes. The Filipino doodler is steadily gaining global recognition with his doodles that can’t be simply described as elementary or child’s play. Rosanes’ doodles are explosive. They’re bursting with life, details, and intricacies. His doodles are truly works of art.
With his trusty black pen and Moleskin, 23-year old Rosanes fills the pages of a sketchbook with his art often with a whimsical approach, complex lines, and organic elements that often sprout during his doodling sessions. His works of art, which he humbly labels as “just doodles,” are rich in details and busy in compositions – two characteristics which are prominent in all of his drawings.
The amazing thing about Rosanes’ works is they’re created out of passion and hobbies. For quite some time, the young artist has worked as a graphic designer. But when his awe-inspiring doodles gained international appreciation, he opted to resign from his job and now enjoy freelance work. He’s currently collaborating with foreign design agencies and world-renowned artists.
Rosanes’ passion for doodling is a great reminder that art can be expressed in a multitude of ways. And there’s nothing “just” or simple about it. So the next time you find yourself annoyed with your doodles or doodling tendencies, stop and envision the remarkable works of Rosanes. They’re fun and enchanting masterpieces that will definitely inspire you to continue your passion.
